DescriptionMy Bee in the City project depicts Aotearoa’s native bee, Te Ngaro-a-Huruhuru, and aims to raise awareness of native bee species facing increasing threats from environmental change, habitat loss, and urbanisation. Using traditional Māori kōwhaiwhai motifs, the design reflects the bee’s beauty through earthy tones and pollen-covered forms. The bee is shown above its ground nest, where larvae develop beneath the soil, highlighting its unique life cycle and ecological importance.
